April 1998, when it all began
The year my in-laws purchased a pool from a local company. That day became the start of something new. The pool salesman came to their house for a final assessment of the location where they wanted the pool. The salesman mentioned how much work he had and no assistant. That’s all it took for my mother-in-law to mention he needed to hire me. So for the next year, I became assistant manager at the local pool store in Auburn, NY. The following year I became the store manager, going on to help the store gross $1 million in sales in one year alone. I continued to manage the store, building a steady base of satisfied customers, for the next 6-7 seasons. I finally left to pursue an alternative career within the family business.
But……I have always found that I had a sincere talent in pools and enjoyed working with customers. I have grown, from ground up my own sales and service pool company, putting to good use the knowledge that I acquired from working in the field since 1998. I have had the opportunity to learn from the some of the most skilled people in the industry and continue to work with them as my team of installers/service crew.
Joe’s Pools is made up of Joe Maggio (owner, sales, service, installer), my wife Shannon (website, parts, scheduler, marketing and all around support) and my son Elijah who has worked with me over the past 10 years. Two years ago, I had the pleasure of including my young son (then 9) in learning this business. He has really taken to pools and has surprised me how quick he has learned. My regular customers enjoy seeing how hard he works and I receive many calls requesting him for the job (believe it or not, he has put some men to shame lol). I am proud to have a business that I can include my son and teach him all that I know, meanwhile spending quality time with him.
